We’re spoilt for choice in Devon and Cornwall for fantastic stately homes, houses and gardens to visit.

Local to us here in Looe, there’s Antony in Torpoint. Stunning grounds that border the Lynher Estuary include formal garden with topiary, a knot garden, modern sculptures, national collection of Daylilies and woodland gardens. Antony was recently used as the backdrop for Tim Burton’s Alice In Wonderland.

Cotehele, St Dominick, near Saltash is a beautiful Tudor House steeped in history and legends. Gardens include formal terraces and Valley Garden. It’s also home to the restored Tamar sailing barge, the Shamrock.

Anyone see Pentillie Caste on Channel 4′s Country House Rescue – well if you fancy seeing it in the flesh, so to speak, it’s at St Mellion near Saltash – again, not far from here. For more information, go to www.pentillie.co.uk.
